Chipinge Man Whips Uncle Over Sadza Orders

A 24-year-old man from Musani Village, under Chief Mutema in Chipinge, has been sentenced to community service after launching a violent attack on his 48-year-old uncle in a domestic dispute triggered by a food-related argument.

The confrontation erupted when the uncle instructed his nephew’s wife to prepare enough food for visiting guests — a gesture that enraged the young man and led to a brutal assault.

The Chipinge Magistrate’s Court convicted the man of physical abuse under the Domestic Violence Act.

He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, with six months suspended on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining 12 months were converted to 420 hours of community service at Musani Primary School.

The attack happened on 20 August 2025 at Musani Village, where tensions escalated after the uncle instructed his nephew’s wife to prepare enough food for visitors.

The gesture infuriated the 24-year-old, who grabbed his uncle by the neck and struck him repeatedly with fists and open palms, leaving him bruised and vulnerable.

Moments later, he returned armed with an electric cable and lashed the older man several times, forcing the victim to scramble into his bedroom to escape the relentless beating.

The victim sustained bruises on both hands and shoulders.

Prosecutors said the attack stemmed from a perceived breach of household boundaries, after the uncle gave instructions to the offender’s wife — a move the accused found disrespectful and provocative.

“This case reinforces how seriously the courts take domestic violence cases,” said the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ).
