Nelson Chamisa Mourns Raila Odinga
RAILA AMOLO ODINGA 1945-2025…Kenya in particular and Africa in general, has lost a larger than life gladiator who gave his all in the arena of democracy. Baba Raila was an inspirational leader with powerful fangs that helped upend the foundations of dictatorship in his country and beyond. His consistent fight for democracy in his entire life should continue to inspire present and future Africans who yearn for a prosperous and stable Africa whose foundation is steeped in good governance and democracy.
> In 2017, I travelled to Kenya with the late Pres MT and his wife to meet Baba Odinga. We were received with warmth and grace, embodying true African hospitality.
> During that visit, Baba Odinga offered to help mend relations between President MT and a businessman brother ; such was his nature a reconciler, a bridge-builder, a unifier. On that visit, Baba also got concerned at Pres MT ’s health and the mounting medical bills. In his kindness, Baba handed over enough money on the spot to help settle the bills in full. It was befitting that when Pres MT passed, Baba travelled all the way to Buhera to pay his last respects at the funeral. His generosity knew no bounds. He was an embodiment of Ubuntu his love for Africa and its people transcended man-made borders . A true democracy champion .
