Chibuku Super Cup Set For Explosive Weekend
Zimbabwe’s premier knockout football tournament, the Chibuku Super Cup, resumes this weekend, promising two days of thrilling knockout football.
The 2025 edition of the tournament has delivered upsets and drama, culminating in a final four that pits the reigning champions against ambitious challengers and one of Zimbabwe’s most storied rivalries.
The action kicks off on Saturday, October 25, 2025, as newcomers MWOS host 2018 winners Triangle United at the Ngoni Stadium in Norton.
The weekend culminates in the highly anticipated “Battle of Zimbabwe” on Sunday, October 26, 2025, when cup holders Dynamos clash with long-time rivals Highlanders at the iconic Rufaro Stadium in Harare.
The first semi-final presents a compelling contrast between the tournament’s surprise package, MWOS, and the seasoned Triangle United.
A win here would mark a historic first-ever final appearance for the Norton-based side.
Standing in their way are the Sugar Boys, Triangle United, who clinched the cup in 2018 after defeating the then-defending champions, Harare City, in a memorable final.
The main event on Sunday is a fitting semi-final for the country’s biggest football derby. Dynamos and Highlanders, the two giants of Zimbabwean football, meet again with a place in the Chibuku Super Cup final on the line.
The two giants of Zimbabwean football cancelled each other out in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, drawing 1-1 at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday, and will meet again a week later.
Dynamos, the defending champions, are hunting for an unprecedented third consecutive Chibuku Super Cup title, having lifted the trophy in both 2023 and 2024.
Their recent league form has been inconsistent, but the Glamour Boys have proven their mettle in the knockout format, making them the team to beat.
Highlanders, however, have been on a resurgence this season and are desperate to break their own lengthy cup drought.
While their league form has placed them in a mid-table position, a victory against their bitter rivals in this semi-final would provide a massive morale boost and an opportunity to add to their tally of major honours.
The “Battle of Zimbabwe” fixture remains arguably the biggest crowd-puller in the country, and a packed Rufaro Stadium is guaranteed to provide a charged atmosphere.
The Chibuku Super Cup, which was reintroduced in 2014, serves as Zimbabwe’s premier knockout competition and secures the winner a berth in the CAF Confederation Cup.
