Madzimai runs amock, slices hubby’s stomach with a kitchen knife, injures couple’s landlord in the same attack
A WOMAN, who sliced her husband’s stomach with a kitchen knife and left his intestines protruding after a dispute in Epworth yesterday, is now in police custody.
The dispute was sparked by a row over a debt to a loan shark.
Tafadzwa Mandaza was arrested for seriously injuring her husband Abraham Chirivhayo, 35, at their home.
She also injured their landlord after attacking him with the same kitchen knife.
The couple has been having fights for some time. They also lead an Apostolic sect (Johanne Masowe Yenguwotsvuku) and use their homestead to conduct their church business.
Police yesterday confirmed that Madzimai Tafadzwa was in custody.
In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of Madzimai Tafadzwa.
“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Tafadzwa Mandaza (31) in Epworth on 23/10/25 in connection with the stabbing of her husband, Abraham Chirivhayo (35), with a knife during a dispute over debts to loan sharks.
“Chirivhayo has since been referred to a local hospital for medical attention after sustaining a deep cut on the stomach, resulting in protruding intestines.
“More details regarding Chirivhayo’s condition will be released in due course,” reads the statement.
After stabbing her husband, Madzimai Tafadzwa went on to cut her landlord, only identified as Manene, on the hand with the same weapon as he tried to stop her from attacking her husband.
Residents said it was a shocking and deeply disturbing incident after Chirivhayo’s intestines were left protruding from an open abdominal wound.
Chirivhayo lost a lot of blood and was left unconscious while Madzimai Tafadzwa escaped the scene before she was apprehended by a mob.
“We heard that the issue was about some money which Madzimai Tafadzwa had borrowed from a local loan shark and was long overdue.
“She demanded the money from Madzibaba Abraham after she saw that he had just been paid from his menial job, for which he was contracted by a local councillor.
“After failing to get the money from her husband, Madzimai Tafadzwa took out some of the couple’s blankets, which she intended to sell to recover the money and, upon being reprimanded by her husband, she took out a kitchen knife and stabbed him.
“After stabbing her husband, she ran away, but she was apprehended by a mob.
“That’s when she was tied to a tree and asked to explain her actions as we waited for the police to arrive,” said the couple’s neighbour Esther Makandiona.
Makandiona added: “Ndini ndatozotora machira ndikavasunga padumbu asi zvanga zvichityisa, mukadzi ane hutsinye hake iyeyu, anga achitoita kunge agarwa ndatadza kana kumutarisa ku face anga achitotyisa.
“Mapurisa dai aita basa ravo nyaya yawana mutongo chaiwo ku court nekuti kana nesu taakutotya kugara nemunhu ane hunhu hwamai ava,” she said.
Last night an emergence operation was performed on Madzibaba Abraham at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital after some of the residents raised money for the procedure.
Madzimai Tafadzwa is expected to appear in court soon. _*HMetro*
