4th SADC Anti-Sanctions Commemorations: Faith Leaders Rally for Zimbabwe’s Economic Freedom
By Chiyedzo Josiah Dimbo – Ambassador of Hope
Zimbabweans and Southern Africans today marked the 4th SADC Anti-Sanctions Commemorations, a day to highlight the devastating effects of illegal sanctions and to rally for national economic freedom.
The 25th of October has historical significance as a symbol of resistance against external interference that has long targeted Southern African nations. Since their imposition, sanctions have contributed to industrial collapse, healthcare shortages, rising poverty, and reduced food security.
In Harare, the Zimbabwe Amalgamated Council of Churches (ZACC), under the patronage of philanthropist Mr. Jimayi Muduvuri and National Chairman Bishop Nhamo Gwete, led a powerful rally calling for the unconditional removal of sanctions.
Bishop Gwete described sanctions as “satanic, ruinous, and evil”, stating they have crippled industries, hospitals, and communities.
“Sanctions must be totally removed. Despite these challenges, the Second Republic under President Emmerson Mnangagwa continues to achieve major milestones, including new roads, the Mbudzi Traffic Interchange, and other infrastructure projects,” said Bishop Gwete.
Patriotic business leaders such as Wicknell Chivhayo, Kudakwashe Tagwirei, and Paul Tungwarara were praised for driving development despite the economic challenges imposed by sanctions.
Archbishop Isaac Gumpo of Muzingwane, Matabeleland South, urged the government to rehabilitate dams and irrigation systems to ensure food and water security for rural communities.
Women, disproportionately affected by sanctions, were represented by Tafadzwa Mazodza, Head of Women’s Affairs for ZACC, who emphasized community-based empowerment projects such as goat rearing, poultry, and sewing to restore dignity and independence.
The Coalition Against Sanctions continues to urge all Zimbabweans to unite against these unjust measures, emphasizing that Zimbabwe’s resilience under the Second Republic reflects the enduring spirit of its people.
Key Messages from the Rally:
Sanctions undermine Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and development.
National unity is crucial in advocating for their removal.
Grassroots initiatives, agriculture, and entrepreneurship remain central to recovery.
As Ambassador of Hope, I affirm: Zimbabwe will overcome sanctions. Our nation will thrive. Our people will prosper. Together, we reclaim our economic freedom and dignity.
Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo!
