The Gifted Children Foundation, a registered charity trust is once again partnering the premier cycling event, the Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke to assist talented but underprivileged children in the Great Dyke and beyond.

The Foundation aims to raise funds to support at least 100 primary and secondary school learners from low- income families within the Great Dyke region by 2026. The initiative provides a vital life to children at risk of dropping out of school due to financial problems.

Speaking on the campaign, Gifted Children Foundation Trust , Mrs Emily Hwengwere said this year’s Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke, scheduled from 6-8 November is dedicated to uplifting gifted but disadvantaged learners from the Great Dyke communities.

“People will be cycling for wellness, yes but more importantly for charity. There are so many young people in the Great Dyke who lack opportunities to persue education from primary to secondary school”, she said

“As the Gifted Children Foundation, we focus on talented but disadvantaged learners who maybe orphaned, come from single- parent households or whose guardians are struggling financially, yet they continue to excell academically. Every child deserves the chance to learn and dream regardless of their background “, she said.

Mrs Emily Hwengwere called on individuals, corporates and communities along the tour route to unite in support of the initiative and give the talented children a chance to reach their full potential

“As the cyclists embark on their journey from Selous to Zvishavane, we invite the public to be part of this noble cause. Our team will be stationed along the route with donation boxes for those who wish to contribute in person. Those preferring to donate directly to our bank account will find the details provided through our communication channels. Every contribution, no matter how small make the difference in a child’s future”, he said.

Currently, 42 children are receiving sponsorship through the Gifted Children Foundation, including some children of cyclists participating in the Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke. To date the Foundation assisted over 100 children to complete various levels of study from primary to tertiary education

Mrs Hwengwere added that their goal in not only to fund education but also to inspire communities, to invest in the next generation of leaders, innovators and nation builders

“We are calling on Zimbabweans everywhere- cheer the cyclists, yes but also remember the children whose dreams depend on your support. Even a few cents can help unlock a lifetime opportunity”, she said

The Gifted Children Foundation was established in memory of mbuya Kudzai Hwengwere, mother to YAFM founder Munyaradzi Hwengwere. She was a philanthropist who cared for many children in her hometown of Zvishavane. Mbuya Hwengwere passed away on 1 November 2014, but her legacy lives on through the Gifted Children Foundation.
