Munhenzva Bus Accident: 4 people dead, 14 injured – ZRP confirms

Four people were killed and 14 others injured on Sunday evening when a Scania bus operated by Munenzva Bus Service veered off the road and overturned, landing on its roof. The bus was carrying 26 passengers on a route from Harare to Cape Town.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the fatal accident occurred at approximately 1720 hours at the 155-kilometre peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road.

In a press statement issued today, November 17th, police detailed the emergency response. Injured victims were initially transported to Rutenga clinic for treatment and were subsequently referred to Neshuro Hospital for further management. The bodies of the four deceased individuals were taken to the Neshuro Hospital mortuary to await post-mortem examinations.

The names of the victims have not yet been released. The ZRP stated this would be done “in due course once the bodies have been identified by their next of kin.”

The police statement, issued by Commissioner P. Nyathi, extended “heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims” and reiterated a warning for motorists to “avoid speeding and obey all road rules and regulations.”

This incident comes as authorities issue broader road safety warnings ahead of the festive season. Police are urging drivers to ensure their vehicles are regularly serviced, to check the condition of tyres, including the spare wheel, and to ensure windscreen wipers are functional during the current rainy season.
