PSL Clubs Vote To Freeze Relegation, Increase Teams

…No team will be relegated this season, PSL teams voted to have 22 teams next season

Premier Soccer League clubs have voted to increase the number of teams in the top flight league from 18 to 20 in line with the proposal from the Zimbabwe Football Association.

The clubs meeting in Harare today unanimously endorsed the proposal by ZIFA as a ‘stabilisation project’ in line with efforts to revive the local game.
The decision by the PSL clubs means that no team will be relegated this season. The four promoted teams FC Hunters, Hardrock, Agama, and Bulawayo Chiefs will put the number of the teams in the league to 22 during the 2026 season with six teams set to be relegated. The teams will be trimmed to 20 for the 2027 season, with modalities being worked according to whether the proposal to have a national first division one league would have passed or not.
ZIFA are engaging football stakeholders on the reforms of local football.
