Peter Ndlovu Hints at Running for ZIFA Presidency Amid Buzz Over Elections
With Zimbabwe’s ZIFA elections approaching, football legend Peter Ndlovu has dropped hints that he may contest for the top football job. Several prominent figures have been linked to the race, including Walter Magaya, Marshall Gore, Ellen Chiwenga, Brighton “Panjap” Ushendibaba, Richard Mazodze, Martin Kweza, and Twine Phiri.
Ndlovu’s activity on social media has sparked speculation about his possible candidacy. Responding to a football follower on X (formerly Twitter) urging him to run for ZIFA president, Ndlovu wrote, “When the topic is about the beautiful game, I have more hours to listen, to discuss and learn more. It can only better my understanding of football as a whole—playing, coaching, administration and more.”
The former Warriors striker also appeared in a video with Temba Mliswa, a former legislator, where he stressed the need to revive Zimbabwean football.
“What is important is for us to bring back football to be in its position. The only way to do that is through togetherness and relationships. Will keep you updated, but football is coming home,” Ndlovu said.
Although the nomination process is yet to open, Ndlovu is already considered one of the favorites for the position.

The elections, scheduled for early next year, will determine who will succeed Felton Kamambo, who was ousted in 2022.
Ndlovu’s football journey has been nothing short of remarkable. He became the first captain to lead Zimbabwe to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and was the first African to play in the English Premier League.
During his career, he left a lasting legacy at Coventry City, Birmingham City, and Sheffield United, scoring a total of 87 goals across the three clubs. He also made 100 appearances for the Warriors, scoring 37 goals for his national team.
Meanwhile, in women’s football, Zimbabwe’s Mighty Warriors lost 1-0 to Mozambique in their opening match of the 2025 COSAFA Cup Championship in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. They will face Lesotho in their next game on Sunday.
