Zvishavane village head sentenced 17 years for raping mentally challenged woman

A 40-year-old village head from the Masunda area of Zvishavane will spend the next 17 years behind bars after he was convicted of raping a 23-year-old mentally challenged woman.

Facts are that on September 18, the accused went to the complainant’s place of residence looking for help to crush rainmaking sorghum and found the complainant with her father.

It is alleged the father of the accused then asked his daughter to escort and help the Village head to crush the rain-making sorghum at his home.

The two then went to the complainant’s house, where the accused raped her once. However, the complainant’s father noticed some behavioural changes from his daughter, leading to investigations.

A police report was made leading to the arrest of the accused, and a medical report was produced in court as exhibit.
