By Chiyedzo Josiah Dimbo, Ambassador of Hope

In the heart of Mhondoro, a historic gathering is set to unfold on December 20, 2025, as Apostolic Churches, community leaders, and ordinary Zimbabweans from all walks of life converge to honor the indelible legacy of the late Archbishop Douglas Mandaza. A man of unwavering faith, humility, and vision, Archbishop Mandaza, who served as President of the Zimbabwe Amalgamated Council of Churches (ZACC), left an indelible mark on the spiritual and social fabric of Zimbabwe. His life was a testament to service, unity, and compassion—values that continue to inspire even after his passing.

This memorial service, lovingly organized under the leadership of ZACC led by Patron Cde Jimayi Muduvuri, is more than a commemoration; it is a celebration of a life well-lived and a call to unity for all who cherish the Archbishop’s vision. Cde Muduvuri, a beacon of philanthropy and leadership, has once again stepped forward to ensure that this event is a fitting tribute. From providing food and refreshments to erecting a tombstone for the revered Archbishop, Muduvuri’s actions embody the spirit of selflessness that Archbishop Mandaza held dear.

“We are not just remembering Archbishop Mandaza; we are honoring his dream of a united church and a prosperous Zimbabwe,” said Cde Muduvuri, whose Muduvuri Rehabilitation and Empowerment Foundation has transformed countless lives. His efforts have earned him the prestigious 2025 Distinguished All-Time Funder of Disability Empowerment Award, a testament to his dedication to uplifting others.

A Unifying Force in the Apostolic Community

The memorial service has sparked an unprecedented wave of unity among Zimbabwe’s Apostolic Churches. The Apostolic Christian Council of Churches (ACCZ), Apostolic Christian Council of Churches 2009 Original, Zimbabwe Apostolic Bishops Conference, and Zimbabwe Apostolic Bishops Council of Churches have all rallied behind ZACC, forming what Bishop Gwete calls a “Rainbow Union.”

“Archbishop Mandaza was a unifier, and his passing has only strengthened our resolve to come together,” said Bishop Gwete. “Under the patronage of Cde Jimayi Muduvuri, we are transcending our individual affiliations to honor a man who dedicated his life to God and the church.”

Bishop Obert Vurayayi Matsveru, President of ACCZ Original 2009, fondly recalled his collaboration with Archbishop Mandaza, describing him as a pillar of strength and a committed servant of God. “He was not just a colleague but a brother in Christ. His humility and dedication were unmatched,” said Bishop Matsveru. He also praised Cde Muduvuri for his tireless efforts to support the pastoral community, particularly in providing dignified burials for church leaders.

A Legacy of Service and Humility

Archbishop David Chivizhe, Founder of Siloam Apostolic Church and Chief Registrar of Zimbabwe Apostolic Bishops Council of Churches (ZABCC), shared heartfelt memories of his friendship with Archbishop Mandaza. “He was a man of integrity, always seeking to do what was right,” said Archbishop Chivizhe. “He gave his resources, time, and energy to the church without hesitation.”

Archbishop Chivizhe recounted how Archbishop Mandaza played a pivotal role in uniting Apostolic Churches and advocated for Zimbabwe’s liberation from unjust sanctions. “He was a patriot who loved his country deeply. His efforts, alongside Cde Muduvuri, to engage with Western embassies and call for the removal of sanctions were a testament to his love for Zimbabwe,” he added.

Among his many achievements, Archbishop Mandaza’s initiative to build a school in Mhondoro using his own resources stands as a shining example of his commitment to community development. “He was not just a spiritual leader but also a practical one, always seeking ways to uplift those around him,” said Archbishop Chivizhe.

A Vision for the Future

As the Apostolic community prepares to gather in Mhondoro, there is a shared determination to carry forward Archbishop Mandaza’s vision of a unified church under the patronage of Cde Jimayi Muduvuri. “He wanted to see all Apostolic Churches united under ZACC, and we are committed to making that a reality,” said Archbishop Chivizhe. “This memorial service is not just a goodbye; it is a new beginning.”

The event will feature heartfelt tributes, spirited worship, and a communal feast, symbolizing the unity and love that Archbishop Mandaza championed. Cde Muduvuri’s generosity has ensured that no one will be left out, embodying the spirit of inclusivity that was at the core of the Archbishop’s mission.

A Call to Action

As Zimbabweans from all corners of the country prepare to descend upon Mhondoro, this memorial service serves as a powerful reminder of the impact one life can have on an entire nation. Archbishop Douglas Mandaza’s legacy is a call to action—a challenge to embrace unity, serve selflessly, and uplift one another.

On December 20, 2025, Mhondoro will not just be a place of mourning but a beacon of hope, a testament to the enduring power of faith, and a celebration of a life that continues to inspire.

“Archbishop Mandaza may be gone, but his vision lives on,” said Cde Jimayi Muduvuri. “Together, we will carry his torch and ensure that his dream of a united, prosperous Zimbabwe becomes a reality.”

All roads truly lead to Mhondoro on this historic day—a day to remember, to celebrate, and to unite.
