Zimbabwe’s Kurash King: Mr. Mat’s Quest for Global Glory

Jonathan “Mr. Mat” Muvingi, Zimbabwe’s strongest man, is on a mission to conquer the Kurash world in Iran. The 15th World Kurash Seniors Championship is happening from January 31 to February 5, 2026, and Mr. Mat is determined to bring home a medal .

With impressive feats like pulling a 56-tonne train wagon and a 6.5-tonne haulage truck with his mouth, Mr. Mat has earned his nickname. He’s a Corporal in the Zimbabwe National Army and has been training tirelessly since 2007. His gold medal at the 18th African Kurash Championships and bronze at the 2020 World Wrestling Championships make him a formidable contender .

However, financial constraints are holding him back. Mr. Mat is seeking sponsorship to cover travel and accommodation expenses. “I want to showcase Zimbabwe’s strength on the global stage and bring pride to my country,” he said .

Mr . Mat has achieved the following, Gold Medal : 18th African Kurash Championships, South Africa.Bronze Medal : 2020 World Wrestling Championships, Iran and _Silver Medal_: 20th Africa Senior Kurash Championship, Eswatini.

Kurash, a mix of wrestling and strength, demands peak fitness. Contestants attempt to score with high-amplitude throws, using towels to hold opponents.
