HIGHLANDERS appoints South African Thabo Senong as new club head coach
HIGHLANDERS Football Club has appointed South African Thabo Senong as the new club head coach ahead of the 2026 league season.
Senong comes in as a replacement for Pieter De Jong, who parted ways with the club following the lapsing of his contract on the 31st of December.
The South African joins a long list of foreign coaches who have managed Highlanders, and he comes at a time when the outfit is desperate to win a league title, which it last lifted in 2006.
Bosso highlighted that it picked Senong ahead of other coaches because he comes with a wealth of experience in player development, as he is a former coach of South Africa’s Under 20 men’s national team.
“Coach Senong brings a wealth of experience at the elite level of football, having worked with the South African senior and Under-20 national teams, the Lesotho senior men’s national team, and achieving notable success at the youth level, including winning the COSAFA Cup Under 20 tournament in 2013.
“His strong background in youth development, tactical organisation, and team building makes him a valuable addition to the Bosso technical team,” said Highlanders on Senong’s appointment.
Senong will be assisted by former Highlanders player Mkokheli Dube, and the club is confident that he will add value in maintaining the team’s culture while working with the new gaffer.
“Mkokheli Dube returns to the club as a familiar and respected member of the Bosso family, having previously represented Highlanders as a player.”
“His deep understanding of the club’s culture, values, and traditions, coupled with his passion and experience, will play a key role in supporting the technical team and motivating the squad both on and off the pitch.
“On behalf of the entire Highlanders FC family, the club warmly welcomes Coaches Thabo Senong and Mkhokheli Dube, and wishes them every success in their new roles,” added Highlanders.
The club further revealed that it will announce other technical members to work with new coach Senong in the coming weeks. NewZimbabwe
