Chegutu Pirates rue missed chances and settle for draw
ZPC Kariba and visiting Chegutu Pirates settled for a goalless draw but the latter blame themselves for not collecting maximum points despite dominatimg in this PSL derby at Nyamhunga Stadium on Saturday.
The match saw Chegutu Pirates missing several opportunities to score, with Tinashe Mwafulirwa failing to convert a crucial chance in added time.
Meanwhile, ZPC Kariba’s goalkeeper was injured early in the game while attempting to save a powerful shot from Dexter Phiri.
Although Chegutu Pirates had multiple set piece opportunities, their lack of precision cost them potential goals.
ZPC Kariba also had their chances, but struggled to breach the defense of Pirates’ midseason acquisition goalkeeper Sydney Mozeka.
ZPC Kariba’s coach Newton Taundi Chitehwe admitted that Chegutu Pirates were the better team on the day, praising the defenders for their performance.
“Pirates defenders was resolute. I credit them for thwarting my strikers.” said Chitehwe
Chegutu Pirates CEO Admire Botso also acknowledged their team’s good performance and expressed that with some better luck, they could have secured a victory.
Alderman Stanley Banda, who was pleased with the outcome, emphasized the need for the team to work on their shooting accuracy, but acknowledged that the result alleviated the pressure from previous losses.
