POLICE ARREST A ZIMBABWE NATIONAL ARMY (ZNA) MEMBER AND A CIVILIAN FOR TRAFFICKING 600KG OF MARIJUANA.

Zimbabwe National Army member in the Presidential Guard, Corporal Alison MAREDZA and a civilian Norest JINGURA were arrested at the National Task Force on Anti Smuggling roadblock at Bubi, 77 km from Beitbridge border post along the Beitbridge Masvingo Highway, on 14 February 2026 at around 0715hours for being found in possession of six hundred kilograms (600kg) of marijuana with an estimated street value of ninety six thousand United States Dollars (US$96 000-00)

This follows the interception of a white Toyota Hilux registration number AGP 1412 at the road block, subsequent to a tip off through a contact, that the vehicle was transporting dangerous drugs.

Searches conducted on the vehicle revealed that the hilux was carrying 120 x approximately 5kg cobs of marijuana, giving a combined weight of six hundred kilograms (600kgs).

JINGURA was clad in Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) uniform, masquerading as an Assistant Inspector (A/I). JINGURA indicated that he was given the uniform by ZRP officer Assistant Inspector Dzingai TAKAWARASHA stationed at Mukushi Accademy.

JINGURA indicated that they are paid twenty five United States Dollars (US$25-00) for delivering one (1) cob. In this case the accused were going to be paid three thousand United States Dollars (US$3000-00) upon delivering the drugs.

MODUS OPERANDI USED BY THE DRUG TRAFFICERS

*Security forces being used to traffick the drugs so as to avoid searches at road blocks.

* The driver of the vehicle impersonated a police officer by wearing a Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) uniform and maintaining a clean shave to resemble a genuine officer.

* Traffickers used a high-powered vehicle similar to those used by government officials and security forces. They removed the vehicle licence discs from the windscreen to create the false impression that the vehicle was a government vehicle.
