2-year-old girl mauled to death by dogs in Bulawayo

A two-year-old girl died after being attacked by boerboel dogs at her family home in the Douglasdale suburb of Bulawayo on Saturday morning.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident and said the child later succumbed to her injuries at Mpilo Central Hospital. She said:

“Police in Bulawayo confirm receiving a sudden death case which occurred in Douglasdale, Bulawayo, where a female minor was bitten by a Boer dog and lost her life.”

Msebele said the child was walking with her 31-year-old mother while her 41-year-old stepfather was feeding four Boerboel dogs inside their fenced yard.

She said the dogs jumped over the fence, ran towards the toddler and attacked her.

According to Msebele, the child suffered serious injuries, including wounds to the scalp and cuts behind the ears, under the armpits and on both legs. She said:

“She was ferried to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical attention, where she was admitted and treated until she succumbed to the injuries.”

Msebele urged dog owners, especially those keeping large or potentially aggressive breeds, to make sure their properties are properly secured so that dogs cannot jump over fences or escape. *_-Pindula_*
