Mvurwi Woman Gives Birth Alone, Buries Infant In Shallow Grave
A 32-year-old woman was arrested on 4 March 2026 at Chihwe Village 2 Farm, Mvurwi, in connection with a suspected case of infanticide.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said Thandiwe Kangara allegedly gave birth alone to a baby girl before reportedly strangling the infant and burying the body in a shallow grave about 10 metres from her homestead.
Police said the matter came to light after a juvenile returning from school noticed that the woman’s pregnancy was no longer visible and alerted a relative, prompting further inquiries. Reads the statement:
“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Thandiwe Kangara (32) in connection with a case of infanticide which occurred on 04/03/2026 at Chihwe Village 2 Farm, Mvurwi.
“Investigations by the Police revealed that the suspect allegedly gave birth alone to a baby girl and subsequently strangled the infant with her hands before burying the body in a shallow grave about 10 metres from her homestead.
“The case was reported to ZRP Vivelkia Post on 05/03/2026, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
“The infant’s body was exhumed and taken to Guruve Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.”
