The mining town of Kadoma is set to come alive with athletic energy as the Kadoma City Council Mayor’s Half Marathon takes centre stage on March 29, marking a key highlight of the city’s Silver Jubilee celebrations commemorating 25 years of growth and development.

The much-anticipated race, organized by Kadoma City Council, will start at 06:00AM from Kadoma Centenary Gardens and will feature three race categories — 5km, 10km and the main 25km half marathon , attracting athletes, fitness enthusiasts and social runners from across the country.

Mayor Nigel Ruzario said the marathon is more than just a sporting event, but a celebration of the city’s journey over the past quarter century.

“This marathon symbolises the spirit of resilience, growth and unity that defines our city. As we celebrate 25 years of Kadoma’s transformation, we are inviting residents and visitors alike to participate in an event that promotes health, community engagement and charity,” he said.

The Mayor added that the initiative reflects the council’s commitment to combining sport, community development and philanthropy, noting that all proceeds from the race will go towards charitable causes within the city.

City spokesperson Walter Ndlovu said preparations for the event are progressing smoothly, with organisers overwhelmed by the response from participants.

“The response from runners and the corporate world has been phenomenal. We are seeing growing interest from athletes, running clubs and community members who want to be part of this historic celebration,” Ndlovu said.

He added that the US$15 registration fee includes a race T-shirt, medals and refreshments, making the event affordable while maintaining professional race standards.

One of the organisers, Councillor Takunda Mawire, expressed optimism that the marathon will become an annual flagship sporting event for the city.

“We are extremely optimistic about the success of this marathon given the overwhelming response we have already received. Our vision is to grow it into a major road race that not only promotes sport but also showcases Kadoma as a vibrant and progressive city,” Mawire said.

The event has also attracted strong institutional backing, with support coming from the Odyssey Run Club, property developer Wesley Park and Rickmuk Enterprises.

Organisers have also introduced virtual participation slots, allowing runners from outside Kadoma and abroad to join the celebrations remotely while contributing to the charitable cause.

With runners already registering in numbers and excitement building, the Kadoma Mayor’s Half Marathon is expected to blend sport, civic pride and community giving, making it a fitting tribute to the city’s 25-year milestone of growth and development.
