CAPS United hands Hardrock FC first defeat of the season to maintain top spot
CAPS United maintained its position at the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with a 2-0 win over Hardrock FC Saturday at Rufaro Stadium in Harare.
Makepekepe scored a goal in each half to secure the three points, thanks to Ishmael Wadii and Alleny Mukombedzi, who scored consecutively.
Saturday’s win left CAPS United with 12 points, ahead of Ngezi Platinum Stars, which has eight points.
The Harare side currently boasts being the only team to have won its opening four league fixtures this season, and team coach Takesure Charagwi applauded his boys for the good start.
“To be honest, we have put in a lot of hard work, but I also want to credit the boys for the effort they are putting in.
“This season is not easy; every match is tough, but grinding out results like this is something that we have to appreciate,” he said.
Saturday’s defeat was the first for Hardrock FC, who for the first time in the ongoing league campaign, conceded.
“It’s good we lost in the early stages of the league; this helps us to see where we can improve.
“If you look at CAPS United, they are not a bad side, one of the best so far, so this gave us time for a reality check,” said Hardrock FC coach Kelvin Kaindu.
Elsewhere at Wadzanayi Stadium, Simba Bhora played a 0-0 draw against Highlanders.
The same scoreline was also at Barbourfields between Chicken Inn and Ngezi Platinum, while FC Platinum and Tel One recorded a 2-2 draw at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane.
