The law says that when the Constitution is being changed, Parliament must consult the public for 90 days to collect peopleโ€™s views and concerns. During this time, any citizen can also send written submissions by letter or email.

These views will be put into a report, which will later be presented in Parliament when the bill is debated. There are now about 49 days left for this consultation phase to finish.

Today, the Zimbabwean government said it is sending 11 teams across the country to gather peopleโ€™s opinions on President Mnangagwaโ€™s constitutional amendment bill. In practice, vocal opposition leaders who are opposed to this bill have either been arrested or assaulted by the regime. Meanwhile, the ruling party, ZANU PF goes about it’s business freely across the country as it drums up public support for the proposed constitutional amendment.
