Teachers from hell… Government investigates vicious attack on student… Savage attack happened on a school bus

Two rogue teachers, who took turns to viciously assault a student on a bus during a school trip, could face criminal charges.

The Government has recommended that the parents of the schoolboy, who was attacked, should report the case to the police.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has condemned the vicious attack, which was captured on a video, which was gone viral.

The director of Communications and Advocacy in the Ministry, Taungana Ndoro, said a team of investigators has been dispatched to the school to look into the case.

Ndoro said the Ministry’s investigation will focus on establishing the authenticity of the video, identifying all individuals involved, determining whether the school trip was properly authorised, and assessing the institution’s overall compliance with regulations governing learner discipline.

“First and foremost, the Ministry condemns in the strongest possible terms any form of violence or abuse within our learning institutions.

“The allegations captured in the widely circulated video, if proven true, re8present a gross violation of the Education Act and the government’s policy on the administration of corporal punishment.

“We are treating this matter with the urgency it deserves.

“We also urge the parents and guardians of the affected learner — and any other witnesses — to report the matter to the police, as the alleged actions may constitute a criminal offence,” said Ndoro.

The teachers are now under intense scrutiny following the disturbing incident.

The student was punished for allegedly swearing using a four-letter word.

The students and their teachers were returning from a school trip.

Sources said what began as a verbal exchange between two pupils aboard the school bus escalated after the teachers intervened and the bashing of a student started.

Instead of defusing the situation, the teachers allegedly turned on one of the students, repeatedly striking the victim as if he was a punching bag, while other pupils looked on.

One of the teachers implicated in the incident has been identified as Manyehwe.

The incident has reignited debate around corporal punishment in Zimbabwe’s education system.

However, what unfolded on that school bus was not corporate punishment but was excessive beating of a helpless student by two grown-up men.

Their savage attack had everything which is not allowed even in corporate punishment – excessive force, public humiliation and punishment that endangers the physical or psychological well-being of the student.

Some allegations, which claim that some teachers on the bus could have been under the influence of alcohol, have emerged.

While these claims remain unverified, they are likely to intensify public concern over professionalism and student safety.

Some parents and former students have also taken to social media alleging a culture of excessive discipline at a number of schools, which are under the management of the school, whose teachers are now being investigated.

“The Ministry remains committed to ensuring that all schools, private or public, operate within the confines of the law,” said Ndoro.

We will not hesitate to impose the necessary sanctions where violations are established.” *_-H-Metro_*
