2 killed, 2 injured as MP Guyo’s truck is involved in accident

Washington Mukandatsama Pomerai (Mhokore) (44) of Nerutanga, Buhera died on arrival at Murambinda Hospital on Saturday evening and his eight-year-old son is admitted at Mutare Provincial Hospital after a truck they were travelling in rammed into Buhera North MP Philip Guyo’s haulage truck parked on the side of Murambinda – Chivhu Road after a tyre puncture.

Meanwhile Paul Musariri (50) of Muchivi Village under Chief Nyashanu who is believed to be Guyo’s mechanic died on the spot while Mathias Mbinda (45) of 1228 Farm Gamanya Chivhu suffered a broken left knee.

Pomerai will be buried at Mukonyo Village under Chief Nerutanga in Buhera tomorrow (Tuesday).

National Police Spokesperson Commissioner, Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident to Masvingo Mirror. Masvingo Mirror is informed that Vergas Mutabwani (24) was driving his white Mitshibushi Cantor 2-tonne truck carrying 15 passengers from Johanne Marange Apostolic Church was travelling from the direction of Murambinda when he approached the stationary Iveco lowbed haulage truck belonging to the MP.

It is alleged that MP Guyo’s truck driven by his brother, Anthony Guyo had no reflective road triangle and the Mitshubishi was over speeding when there was an oncoming vehicle and the Cantor rammed into the stationary truck. The accident happened at the 72km peg at around 1835.

Mufaro the eight-year old whose father died in the accident requires orthopedic surgery to stabilise both fractured legs and the family does not have the money for the process.

Mufaro’s grandfather, Bruce Mukandatsama said his grandson has not been attended to by a doctor for the past two days and they were told there is currently no doctor available to perform the surgery.

“He is just lying there in pain. His legs have not been operated on since he arrived. We were told there is no doctor to perform the surgery. As a family, we are worried because every hour that passes increases the risk of permanent damage or losing his legs,” he said.

Efforts to obtain a comment from Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital Public Relations Officer Sonia Bariri were ongoing at the time of publication. Mirror
