Smooth Groovers Crowned Champions as International Dance Day Ignites Chitungwiza

CHITUNGWIZA, ZIMBABWE – 30 April 2026_ – The energy at Socialite Gardens reached fever pitch this weekend as the Smooth Groovers were crowned champions of the Group B category during a high-octane celebration of International Dance Day. The event transformed the venue into a vibrant hub of rhythm, showcasing the elite tier of Zimbabwe’s street and stage talent.

In a crowd-roaring finale, the Smooth Groovers edged out the competition by a narrow nine-point margin, earning praise from judges for their technical precision and undeniable stage presence. Ama2k finished a close second, followed by Sky Crew in third, with Hot Dancers and Sunshine rounding out the top five after a tightly contested battle that saw less than fifteen points separating the leading crews.

The festivities were graced by a distinguished delegation that underscored the rising national profile of the dance arts. Mr. Mangwende, Director for Legacy TV, served as Guest of Honour alongside Madam Chinodya, Special Secretary to the President. They were joined by National Dance Association of Zimbabwe President Mrs. Kusena and Vice President Manyawu, marking a significant milestone for the country’s creative industry.

Organizers from the National Dance Association of Zimbabwe described the event as a breakthrough for local culture. Beyond the trophies, the day served as a national platform to empower young crews and to formalize dance as a vital pillar of Zimbabwe’s artistic heritage.

As the echoes of the final bass drop faded, Chitungwiza once again solidified its reputation as the heartbeat of the nation’s dance movement.
