Marere FC sting Pirates
Lovemore Chazingwa in Kadoma
“Being counted among the league’s top scorers is my wish this season.”
These are sentiments rallied by Marere FC third goal scorer, Ayami Mlasi, in a post match interview after yesterday’s derby 3-1 win at the football fortress in Kadoma, Rimuka Stadium.
Marere was hosting perennial contenders and neighbours Chegutu ‘Zaire’ Pirates in a ZIFA Northern Region Division One fixture here.
Mlasi scored a scorcher of a goal whose departure from his foot was written goal all over.
The left winger got the better of his marker, spotted his mark and placed what can contend as a season top goal so far. In the process he left the marker shrugging, gasping and tussling for what the contender never grabbed.
Mlasi shrugged his marker, tussled for the ball and struck a wonder pinpoint left footer that placated a ferocious strike lining with the roof net just 10 minutes before end of the match.
As Marere led by two goals to one in those dying minutes of the match, it seemed fate had been settled. Mlasi read nothing from Lady Luck as he put the match beyond the reach of their more illustrious opponents. He surely cemented the smiles, singing, dancing and celebration in the terraces. He withered the storm by any Pirates marauding efforts.
“This is my first goal of the season. I have at least four assists so far but, had not scored a single goal. I want to end the season among the top scorers this season. I believe it’s achievable,” said an elated Mlasi among a sea of celebration, post match.
Mlasi reinforces Marere’s revival in the wake of some poor results prior. The Sanyati domiciled outing made a strong statement when it humbled then log leaders Harare City FC by a solitary wonder strike in their previous meeting. The odds were heavily stucked against Marere but, the gold diggers rained to the occasion.
