Information communication technology (ICT) utility NetOne has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the digital space in Zimbabwe keeps abreast of global trends.
This was announced in a congratulatory message for the nation on its historic election to the influencial, United Nations Security Council (UNSC) seat for the period from 2027 to 2028.
The digital mobile communications provider views this milestone as an overwhelming achievement, reflecting the nation’s growing influence within the global community. In the parastatal’s eye, this giant step reaffirms the southern African nation’s commitment to peace, dialogue and co-operation.
The President has taken a deliberate policy for the nation to be an enemy to non and a friend to all under its re-engangement efforts. The nation has also been on a massive drive to embrace international organizations and nations for the betterment of the national socio-economic and global geo-political stands.
“NetOne Cellular proudly congratulates His Excellency, President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, the Government and the people of Zimbabwe on the nation’s election to the United Nations Security Council,” a communique from the company announces.
On cementing and acknowledging the achievement, the country’s first mobile telecommunications company notes: “This achievement reflects Zimbabwe’s growing influence within the international community and reaffirms our commitment to peace, dialogue and cooperation.”
Zimbabwe has defied odds in an era adversaries viewed it as a state that would not be considered for this politically powerful position.
The UNSC is the primary UN body tasked with maintaining international peace and security. It is the only UN entity with the authority to issue resolutions that are legally binding on all member states.
It has 5 permanent members namely China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom (UK), and the United States (US). Each of these countries holds veto power, meaning a single “NO” vote from any of them can block any substantive resolution The body comprises 10 elected members, where Zimbabwe has found a seat. These ten additional countries are elected by the General Assembly for two-year terms, ensuring regional representation. Zimbabwe will be in this seat for the two year period from 2027-8.
The nation has once again flexed its muscle in the global geo-political arena as a powerhouse of note.
Under the leadership of group chief executive Raphael Mushanawani, NetOne has sprung up to declare unflinching support to that recognition. This commitment dovetails into the global trajectory that the nation is railed.
The UN is the world’s largest international organization, founded in 1945 after World War II to prevent future global conflicts and maintain international peace. Made up of 193 member states, it serves as a global forum for countries to collaborate on human rights, sustainable development, and humanitarian aid.
With this apex consideration, inclusion and leadership role, Zimbabwe’s re-engangement policy is bearing fruit.
