“Sell, Don’t Ride”: Chiwanza Gives Mhondoro Women 168 Bicycles to Fund Their Own Businesses

Mhondoro Mubaira – Mhondoro Mbaira Central MP Hon Chamu Chiwanza is telling women in his constituency not to ride the bicycles he just donated – he wants them to sell them and use the cash to start businesses.
Speaking at Mubaira Growth Point yesterday , Chiwanza handed over 168 bicycles and bags of rice sourced from the Constituency Development Fund. The bicycles will be split across the constituency’s 21 wards, eight per ward.
“I didn’t buy these bikes for women to cycle to the shops,” Chiwanza said. “Sell them in your communities and use the money for income projects like poultry or market gardening. Women who prove they can grow those projects will get US$2,000 each from me to scale up.”
He said the rice was meant to put food on tables while the bicycle sales kickstart small enterprises.
The MP also tied the donation to national politics, urging women to back President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 following Parliament’s passage of Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3. “CAB3 has been passed. It is now your duty as women to support the President and the ruling party’s development drive,” he said.
Chiwanza warned against what he called “anti-progress” influence, claiming some people were handing out airtime bundles to derail Zanu PF projects. “Stay focused and remain loyal to the party,” he told the crowd.
The handover comes ahead of Zanu PF’s national cell day on Saturday 27 June 2026. CDF-funded projects like this are increasingly used by MPs to deliver direct aid, though they often spark debate over development versus political messaging.
Chiwanza’s office said distribution to wards will be coordinated with local leadership.
