Mushikashika Operator Arrested For Assaulting Police Officer In Mutare

A Mutare-based mushikashika operator, Brendon Tsakatsa (29) of Chikanga 1, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer at a service station in the city.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the arrest on Saturday, saying the incident occurred on 29 June 2026 and involved Constable Maxwell Mukumbuzi, who was on duty at the time.

Police said the arrest follows the circulation of a video on social media showing a police officer being assaulted by a motorist at a service station in Mutare.

Tsakatsa, of number 1285 Chikanga 1, is accused of attacking the officer during the incident, which has since sparked public attention online.

In a statement, the ZRP warned kombi operators, pirate taxi drivers and members of the public against assaulting, resisting or obstructing police officers in the lawful execution of their duties.

“The ZRP strongly warns kombi and pirate taxi operators, as well as all members of the public, against assaulting, resisting or obstructing police officers in the lawful execution of their duties. Such conduct constitutes a criminal offence, and offenders will be arrested and brought before the courts without fear or favour,” the police said.

The police further urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement officers and to pursue formal channels of complaint where they are aggrieved by police conduct, rather than resorting to violence or taking the law into their own hands.

Tsakatsa is expected to appear in court soon.

While police did not disclose the specific charges Tsakatsa may face, he could be charged with assaulting or resisting a peace officer in the execution of duty.

If the officer sustained serious injuries, the charge could be escalated to assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).
