ZRP Nets 1,809 In Two-Day Nationwide Blitz On Crime And Traffic Offenders

Harare – The Zimbabwe Republic Police has launched a nationwide operation targeting both crime and traffic offences, recording 1,809 arrests in the first two days alone.
In a press statement issued on 15th July 2026, the ZRP said the operation commenced on 13th July 2026 as part of its ongoing commitment to maintain law and order, protect lives and property, and enhance road safety across the country.
The police said the operation is targeting serious crimes such as murder, attempted murder, robbery, rape, kidnapping, stock theft, theft, unlawful entry into premises, assault, smuggling, and drug and substance abuse. At the same time, officers are clamping down on traffic violations including the use of pirate taxis or “mushikashika” vehicles, unregistered or plateless cars, drunk driving, unlicensed driving, dangerous overtaking, failure to obey traffic lights, and other reckless driving practices.
To support the operation, the ZRP has intensified patrols, roadblocks, stop and search blitzes, compliance inspections and public awareness campaigns across all provinces. The public has been urged to observe the law, act responsibly and support police efforts in the fight against crime.
According to figures released by the ZRP, a total of 1,809 arrests were made by 14th July 2026. These include 63 arrests for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs, 26 arrests for theft, 7 arrests for other specified offences, 3 arrests for robbery and 1 arrest for murder. The remainder of the arrests relate to traffic violations and other crimes of concern.
The police did not indicate how long the operation will run, but said it forms part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activity and improve road safety nationwide. Motorists have been advised to ensure their vehicles are registered, licensed and roadworthy to avoid arrest.
