Police constabulary collapses, dies shortly after Heroes Day performance
A police constabulary collapsed and died shortly after entertaining guests at the Harare Provincial Heroes Acre during the national Heroes Day celebrations on Monday.
Shem Ganda is survived by his wife and eight children.
He is expected to be laid to rest at his rural home in Madziwa.
Ganda was seated behind the Police Junior Call team when he collapsed.
The 57-year-old was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
His sudden death has shocked the Chitungwiza community and the police where he was said to have been a driving force behind the Police Junior Call and community policing.
Shortly before his death, he thrilled guests through scintillating drills at the Harare Provincial Heroes Acre.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the death.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased during this difficult time.
“Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are currently in progress.
“The body was subsequently conveyed to the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.”
Ganda built his name within the ZRP and Junior Call family.
He had been part of the team for more than 20 years.
His passion for young people, his commitment to duty and his dedication to community safety always stood out.
The Junior Call is an initiative led by the Zimbabwe Republic Police to engage the youths in community policing, anti-crime prayer sessions, and awareness campaigns against drug and substance abuse.
Ganda’s sudden death strikes at the heart of that mission, leaving colleagues and members of the public mourning a man who served with a purpose.
