BUSE student set to launch debut book

A BINDURA University of Science Education (BUSE) student, Leona Takudzwa Sande (20), is set to launch her debut novela, Beyond the Storm, at Batanai Gardens in Harare on September 5.
The Level 2.1 Social Work student said the book seeks to inspire young people to remain committed to their dreams despite the challenges they encounter.
Sande, who is also president of the BUSE Social Workers Club and a girl-child advocate, said she began writing the novela during her first year at university while undertaking a course with the Global International School of Leadership in Nigeria.
“The inspiration behind my novela came from a desire to remind young people that their circumstances do not have to determine their future,” she said.
Sande said Beyond the Storm, published by CAM Publishers, speaks to young people from both rural and urban backgrounds, particularly those grappling with financial challenges, social pressure, failure and other obstacles.
“The novela carries a simple but powerful message: no matter what you face, you can still achieve your goals if you remain committed and refuse to give up,” she said.
The launch will be graced by ICT Minister Hon Dr Tatenda Mavetera as the guest of honour, while BUSE Deputy Dean of Students Dorothy Murasi will be the guest speaker.
Public speaker Euphrasia Vimbai from ENACTUS Zimbabwe will serve as the master of ceremonies.
The event will also feature a panel discussion bringing together BUSE SRC Minister Sean Zihwi, ZICOSU National Vice President Ridgewell Bitton and journalist Ngonidzashe Chikandiwa.
Sande said she hoped the book would encourage young people to recognise their potential and contribute towards building a generation capable of persevering through adversity.
She plans to continue writing, with her future works expected to explore issues affecting young people and communities.
“Writing this novela has strengthened my passion for storytelling and for using my voice to inspire and empower others,” she said.
