Businesswoman claims Muduva’s wife was cheating with “multiple men”
Businesswoman Hazel Silibaziso Mafu (36) has accused the late wife of slain Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) Commissioner Martin Muduva of infidelity, claiming their marriage was plagued by cheating and physical fights.
Her claims come after Lyliosa Chirara, a nurse at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in Harare, allegedly killed her husband in the early hours of Wednesday before taking her own life by ingesting suspected rat poison.
Muduva was a former Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) officer and a lecturer at Midlands State University (MSU). Chirara is alleged to have struck him three times with an axe while he was asleep.
Some reports claim the murder-suicide was triggered by Muduva’s alleged affair with Patience Mangwiro, the acting Director of Enterprise at MSU.
Muduva is said to have been in a relationship with Mangwiro for five years, and the two reportedly have a child together.
Muduva paid lobola for Mangwiro over the weekend and on Monday posted a picture from the “Roora Day” on his WhatsApp status before deleting it. Mangwiro is also said to have shared photos from the day on social media. The tragedy followed shortly after.
However, Mafu, who is the founder of Hezy Motors Logistics, has levelled counter-allegations against Chirara, claiming she cheated on Muduva and was abusive.
In a post on Facebook, Mafu wrote: “I’ll never forget the day we had that special meeting with potential partners starting at 8 am, and you walked in late, clothes scattered, no tie, no suit, exhausted.
“You told me you’d escaped a fight at home with your wife’s mobile phone, just to make it to that meeting. You hadn’t slept all night because your wife was fighting with you after you discovered her affairs with multiple men, one of whom she was even running a butchery with. I was in shock.
“But you still showed up, still stood tall, still did what you had to do. I don’t know how you carried that kind of weight and still functioned the way you did. You were one of the strongest people I knew.”
Earlier, Mafu had expressed grief over Muduva’s death, saying she regretted not answering his calls just hours before he died.
“I still can’t believe you’re gone. This feels like a dream I haven’t woken up from yet,” she wrote.
“Knowing Martin was one of the best things that ever happened to me. Every single day you told me what you were going through in your marriage and I tried to help however I could and I really did try my best for you.
“Tuesday night, I missed your calls. I told myself I’d call you back in the morning. I didn’t know that would be the last chance I’d have. I feel bad I didn’t pick up.
“My best friend, my mentor, my fellow board member, and my brother. There’s no replacing any of that. Nothing is going to be the same without you here.”
