It’s not Mambo Dhuterere the gospel artist — Police clarify on US$160,000 armed robbery cases
Police have said that the Mambo Dhutere they have launched a manhunt for and three other suspects in connection with a series of armed robberies in which more than US$160 000 in cash was allegedly stolen, is not the popular gospel musician.
Police said Dhuterere, Khule Diva, Kasongo and Senior Gama are on the run following the arrest of three suspects allegedly linked to the robbery syndicate.
According to a police statement, Tinei Makaripe (47), Pungurayi Mukumbachaza and Gabriel Mukambachaza (41)have been arrested in connection with several armed robberies reported in Ruwa, Rusape and Harare.
The latest robbery occurred in the early hours of September 13, when the suspects and their accomplices allegedly raided a company at Borders Estate in Ruwa at about 12.30am.
The gang allegedly attacked and restrained company workers before escaping with approximately US$108 000.
Makaripe was reportedly apprehended by workers after he fell while attempting to scale the company’s perimeter wall. He was subsequently handed over to the police.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Pungurayi in Damofalls Phase One, Harare, where detectives allegedly recovered US$4 900 hidden in his vehicle.
Gabriel was later arrested at his rural home in Rusape, where police said they recovered US$5 000, two pistols, ammunition, handcuffs, fuse cables, explosives and three balaclavas.
Police said one of the recovered firearms, a Tokarev pistol, had allegedly been stolen during an armed robbery at a steel company in Southerton, Harare, on March 12.
The suspects are also being linked to at least four other armed robbery cases.
On January 26, a beverages company in Rusape was allegedly robbed of US$39 828, a Star pistol loaded with five rounds, pepper spray, handcuffs and three cellphones.
Another robbery was reported on March 12 at a steel company along Tilbury Road in Southerton, where approximately US$14 118 was allegedly stolen.
Police investigations into the cases are continuing, with Dhuterere and the other named suspects being sought in connection with the alleged robbery syndicate. *_-ZimEye_*
