Two suspects linked to the murder of a Bulawayo businessman have been shot dead in a shootout with police, while four others have been arrested.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the development on Friday, 18 September.
Earlier, police had said businessman Tedious Rutanhira, 52, was shot dead on 14 September 2026 in Bulawayo.
According to the ZRP, a shoot-out involving suspects linked to the case resulted in the death of Mehluli Ncube, 45, alias Mamba, and Muzi Richard Fambirai Moyo, 45. Police subsequently arrested Shelton Jubane, 37, Charles Ndlovu, 52, Prince Chisale and Clive Ncube, 27.
The suspects are linked to ten cases of armed robbery in Bulawayo and surrounding areas.
Rutanhira was shot dead in front of his son during a robbery near a service station along JMN Nkomo Street, between Fourth and Third Avenue, in Bulawayo.
ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said three suspects armed with a pistol shot the victim and made off with his bag containing US$10,000 in cash.
“The victim, who was a businessperson, had just closed his shop and was walking towards his son’s vehicle who had come to pick him up,” Commissioner Nyathi said at the time.
