Controversial Prophet Passion Java bounces back after sharing video with Mnangagwa
Controversial cleric Panganai Java, better known as Prophet Passion Java, appears to be making a return to the political spotlight after resurfacing alongside President Emmerson Mnangagwa in New York City.
Java on Sunday posted a video showing himself with Mnangagwa, reviving memories of his highly publicised support for the President ahead of Zimbabwe’s 2023 general elections.
His latest appearance comes after a period in which the controversial cleric had largely remained away from the political limelight, creating the impression that his once-visible association with Mnangagwa had faded.
Java captioned the video with a celebratory message, saying, “With the President of Zimbabwe in New York City 🇿🇼🇺🇸. A moment worth remembering. Drop your best comment below! 🇿🇼🔥”
He also appeared to praise Mnangagwa’s delegation, adding, “Hon Minister Tino Machakaire we are happy with our President.”
The footage has once again placed Java in the orbit of Mnangagwa, despite the controversies that surrounded his open political involvement during the 2023 election period.
His renewed public appearance with the President is likely to reignite questions about the relationship between celebrity religious figures, political power and the public display of loyalty to those in government.
