Malaria Death Toll Hits 376 As Cases Reach 139 925

Zimbabwe recorded 1,386 malaria cases and one death during the week ending September 14, 2025, with cumulative cases reaching 139,925 and deaths at 376, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.
The ministry said the latest malaria-related death occurred at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare.

“Of the cases, 210 (15.2 percent) were children under five,” the ministry said in its weekly disease surveillance report.
Mashonaland Central recorded the highest number of cases during the week with 588, followed by Mashonaland East with 421 cases.

The ministry urged the public to take preventive measures against malaria, particularly by reducing mosquito breeding sites and protecting themselves from mosquito bites.

It said people travelling to or residing in high-risk malaria areas could take preventive medication under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

The ministry also urged people experiencing possible malaria symptoms to seek medical attention and get tested early. *NewsDay*
