Patrick Chinamasa under fire over VP Chiwenga loyalty row

Political commentator Dr Masimba Mavaza has launched a scathing attack on Zanu PF Treasurer-General Patrick Chinamasa, accusing him of political inconsistency following his praise of Vice-President Kembo Mohadi for remaining loyal to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

In an opinion article published by ZimEye on October 11, 2026, Mavaza argues that Chinamasa’s remarks indirectly suggest that Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga is disloyal to Mnangagwa.

Mavaza questions Chinamasa’s own political record, tracing his alleged political shifts from the Rhodesian era and Bishop Abel Muzorewa’s government to Ndabaningi Sithole’s ZANU Ndonga, Edgar Tekere’s Zimbabwe Unity Movement and, eventually, Zanu PF.

He accuses Chinamasa of abandoning his earlier support for multiparty democracy in favour of backing constitutional changes that could extend presidential terms and weaken direct presidential elections.

The article also criticises Chinamasa’s support for Constitutional Amendment No. 3, portraying it as an attempt to preserve his political influence and shape the country’s post-2030 leadership.

Mavaza concludes that Chinamasa is not qualified to lecture others on loyalty, arguing that his political career reflects a pursuit of power rather than consistent principles. *_-ZimEye_*
