Scottland fires Norman Mapeza after CAF Champions League exit

Scottland have sacked head coach Norman Mapeza with immediate effect following their elimination from the CAF Champions League by Angolan side Petro de Luanda. The defending Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League champions confirmed the end of Mapeza’s tenure on Sunday, 25 October 2026, according to The Herald.

The decision comes at a difficult time for Scottland, who are also chasing league leaders Hardrock in the domestic title race. ZimLive reported that Scottland were eight points behind Hardrock, although they had two games in hand.

The Herald reported that Scottland had decided to part ways with Mapeza following their Champions League disappointment.

The newspaper stated: “SCOTTLAND have fired coach Norman Mapeza after defeat to Petro de Luanda in the CAF Champions League.”

It added that the decision was effective immediately.

ZimLive reported on 25 October that the dismissal came three days after Scottland were eliminated from the continental competition by Petro de Luanda.

Scottland must now balance their search for a new coach with the challenge of defending their domestic title.

Although they have two games in hand, the eight-point gap behind Hardrock leaves them needing to make up ground in the league standings.

Mapeza’s departure marks a significant change for the defending champions following their disappointing African campaign. Scottland’s next appointment will be important as they seek to revive their title defence and respond to their recent setbacks. *_-iHarare_*
