Cheated man seeks divorce after paternity shock: 19 years raising someone’s child
A Bulawayo man has approached the High Court seeking a divorce after allegedly discovering that the first-born child he had raised for 19 years is not his biological son.
Aaron Makore is seeking to dissolve his marriage to Kumbirai Makore, née Muchena, claiming that she concealed the child’s paternity throughout their marriage and also fraudulently altered a property sale agreement.
The allegations are contained in summons filed at the Bulawayo High Court through his lawyer, Joshua Nembaware of T Hara and Partners.
According to court papers, the couple entered into an unregistered customary marriage in 2006 before solemnising their union under the Marriage Act on November 14, 2014.
Four children were born during the marriage.
Makore argues that the marriage has irretrievably broken down and that there is no prospect of reconciliation.
According to his declaration, he only discovered the alleged deception after DNA tests reportedly established that he was not the biological father of the couple’s first-born son.
He further alleges that his wife acknowledged the DNA results and informed him that the child’s biological father was her sister’s husband, with whom she allegedly had an affair.
In addition to the paternity dispute, Makore alleges that his wife altered the original agreement of sale for Stand Number 1559, Raylands, Gweru, without his knowledge or consent.
The court papers also state that the couple have not engaged in conjugal relations for more than a year, which Makore cites as further evidence that the marriage has broken down.
He is seeking a decree of divorce, maintenance and an order governing the division of matrimonial property.
The matter is being contested.
Kumbirai Makore has entered an appearance to defend the action through lawyers from the Legal Aid Directorate.
The allegations contained in the summons remain claims before the court and have not yet been tested through legal proceedings. The defendant’s response to the specific allegations was not available. *_-Bulawayo24_*
