Afro Bank Christian High School, which came into the limelight in terms of rural schools participation in 2024, has been praised by parents and the local community for it’s effective stance in adoption of the new Heritage Based Curricullum (HBC).
Speaking to this publication, the principal of the school Mr Shumirai Chigova said as Afro Bank Christian High School, they embrace the President’s vision of adopting education 5.0 so that schools produce students who are not just academically gifted but are also practically able to invent new inventions and technology.
“We are now one year in operation but we have seen the results of how education 5.0 is useful to our students and how our communities shall benefit from it. Long back we used to see white collar jobs as the only gateway to success, but now due to the President Dr Emerson Mnangagwa’s vision and guidance we have gone the extra mile in education,” said Mr Chigova.
The Founder and director of the school Councillor Ruzai Muchaurawa (pictured) also echoed the principal’s sentiments .
“We adopted HBC whereby we are teaching our students to keep cattle, sheep, goats and pigs. We embrace both academically and non-academically gifted students, we teach them how to make a living using knowledge imparted through this new HBC, education 5 .0.”
Councillor Muchaurawa said in the past parents used to find better schools far from their communities in different provinces and this was a burden to parents as it was costly.
“But now with the example of what Afro Bank Christian High School offers, it has lessened the parents’ burden. We no longer focus on books only but also onn practical subjects ,” explained Councillor Muchaurawa.
When The Observer News team arrived at Afro Bank Christian High School yesterday, it was a busy day with parents arriving and settling their children accommodation. The school is located 28km from Harare Central Business District and has both a junior and senior school, just a kilometer apart.
Enrollment is still in progress at Afro Bank Christian High School. The staff is comprised of professionals who deal with students with parental love and guidance. The school offers both boarding school and day-school attendance.
