Two Men Jailed for Sexual Intercourse With Young Persons In Mash West

A 39-year-old man from Mugwadzakunzungwa Village, Karoi, has been sentenced to 36 months in prison for engaging in sexual intercourse with his 17-year-old niece, a Form 4 student at a local school.

Six months of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour, leaving him to serve 30 months effectively.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the offender proposed love to the victim in March 2025, and the two began a consensual sexual relationship in April.

In May, the victim informed him of her pregnancy, which he accepted. However, he ended the relationship shortly after discovering she had another boyfriend.

The emotional toll on the victim led to a suicide attempt through pill ingestion. She was rushed to Chidamoyo Mission Hospital for treatment.

The case came to light after she confided in a local pastor, who facilitated a police report that led to the offender’s arrest.

In a separate case, the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court convicted a 37-year-old man for having sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl.

He was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment, with 6 months suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour. He will serve 18 months.

The court heard that the offender met the juvenile at a water tap in January 2024 and proposed love, which she accepted.

In September, he invited her to his house while her parents were away working on a farm. Once inside, he closed the door and requested sexual intercourse, which she agreed to.

The matter was exposed when the victim’s mother heard rumours of the relationship and reported it to the police.

A medical examination was conducted at Chinhoyi Hospital as part of the investigation.
