Unlicensed Driver Jailed, Banned From Driving For Reckless Conduct in Harare CBD

AN unlicenced driver who drove against a one-way traffic lane, causing an accident in Harare’s Central Business District (CBD), has been jailed for reckless driving and banned from driving for two years.

The 32-year-old Oscar Ngonidzashe Mushangazhike from Kuwadzana, who appeared at the Harare Magistrate’s Court, was convicted of reckless driving and driving without a licence.

The court heard that on September 9, at around 1530hours, the offender was driving against oncoming traffic while speeding along Kenneth Kaunda Avenue, in Harare’s CBD.

He caused an accident when he sideswiped another vehicle and while attending the scene, police discovered the offender had no valid driver’s licence.

Mushangazhike will serve a one-year jail term for reckless driving and was fined US$80 for driving without a licence.

He was also prohibited from driving for two years. *ZBC*
