Revai Makaza, Female Auto Electrician Excels In Male Dominated Industry

By Desire Tshuma

_Harare_ – After enrolling in the auto‑electrician program at Kwekwe Polytechnic in 2019, Revai Makaza secured her industrial attachment at Quest Motors, the bustling service hub in Harare

During the one-year stint at Quest Motors she shadowed senior technicians, learning to use advanced diagnostic tools on modern CAN‑bus systems. Her breakthrough came when a flagship Toyota Fortuner arrived with an intermittent no‑start condition. Revai traced the fault to a deteriorated crankshaft position sensor wiring loom, rebuilt the harness, and cleared the fault in few hours — saving Quest Motors in potential lost revenue.

“I was inspired by our tenant who is selling car spare parts; she was making lots of money through selling spare parts and she advised me to enrol into any Polytechnic College to study auto electricity so that if I venture into a similar business I would be able to do fix and supply.

“I then enrolled at Kwekwe Polytechnic College and studied my course for four years. Now I am a qualified auto electrician and I’m doing self jobs,” Revai said.

The experience cemented her confidence, earning her a commendation from the workshop manager and a job offer as a junior auto‑electrician. Today, Revai runs her own mobile service, and often recalls the “Quest” that turned her training into real‑world spark.
