Kwekwe prophet jailed 15 years for raping a 16-year old during cleansing ceremony
A SELF-PROCLAIMED prophet from Kwekwe has been thrown behind bars for 15 years after he raped a 16-year-old girl during what he called a “cleansing ceremony”.
The 42-year-old fake man of God was convicted by the Kwekwe Regional Court after a harrowing ordeal that left the victim traumatised.
According to court records, the teenager had gone to the so-called prophet’s house on 29 September 2025 seeking prayers because she was not feeling well.
The man first told her that she needed to have sexual intercourse to be “healed”. When she refused, he tricked her into following him to a bushy area for a supposed spiritual cleansing.
There, he handed her a red cloth to tie around her waist and gave her a concoction to drink. Moments after drinking it, the girl became dizzy. The fake prophet pounced on her, pushed her to the ground and raped her.
After the vile act, he shamelessly told the girl that she had been “healed” and walked away. The following day, the victim confided in her mother, who promptly reported the matter to the police, leading to the fake prophets arrest.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) condemned the sex attack in a statement and urged communities to support rape survivors.
“Rape is a grave violation of human rights and dignity, communities are urged to stand against sexual violence, support survivors and report such crimes promptly to law enforcement,” said the authority.
