Mugabe’s son pleads guilty, fined for two grams of dagga
HARARE — Robert Tinotenda Mugabe, the late former president’s son, has been convicted of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs and fined USD300 by a Harare magistrate after pleading guilty on Wednesday.
The National Prosecuting Authority said Mugabe, 33, was stopped by police while driving a silver Honda Fit along 2nd Street Extension at about 8.30 AM on October 1. Officers searched his black sling bag and recovered two sachets of dagga, a packet of Rizla rolling papers and a white dagga crusher.
The seized dagga weighed two grams with a street value of USD30.
In its statement, the NPA said: “He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to pay USD300 fine or face 4 months imprisonment, in default of payment.”
The authority added that Mugabe was arrested immediately after the search. “Drugs continue to threaten the wellbeing of communities and young people in Zimbabwe. We urge citizens to continue working with us in ridding our society of harmful substances.”
Mugabe was convicted at the Harare Magistrates’ Court.
