ENTUMBANE UNDER SIEGE! Robbers hit third bar in 24 hours

BARELY 24 hours after daring robbers raided two sports bars in Entumbane suburb, another drinking spot has been hit. This time the thieves struck at Gibixhegu beerhall, popularly known as koHerbert, where three knife wielding men got away with an assortment of beer in the early hours of the morning.

According to police, the trio pounced at around 3am. They reportedly jumped over the durawall to enter the beer garden yard and immediately threatened the security guard with a knife.

“The accused persons tied the hands and legs of the security guard with wire. They then broke a burglar bar door padlock with an unknown object before forcing open the locked door to gain entry into the bar,” said acting Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu.

The robbers fled with seven bottles of Two Keys Whiskey, nine bottles of Gilbert Gin, three bottles of Viceroy, a bottle of Gordon’s Whiskey, 20 star brands and an Itel cellphone, all valued at Us$140.

“Investigations are in progress and police appeal to members of the public with information that may lead to the arrest of the accused persons to report at any nearest police station,” said Ast Insp Ndlovu.

Proprietor Herbert Ndebele said he was shocked at how the criminals managed to break open his most secure door.

“When I came in here security from both the city council and later a private security company said this door was the most secure point. I was advised to reinforce the other points,” said Ndebele.

He said the reaction squad from the private security company saved the day.

“When they broke in, the alarm system went off and alerted the reaction squad. Had it not been for that, they could have taken a lot,” said Ndebele.
