Harare Residents Frustrated Over Flooded Streets Due to Blocked Drainage Systems
Heavy rains in Harare on Monday have highlighted ongoing problems with the city’s drainage system, leading residents to criticize the Harare City Council for what they see as neglect.
Many streets have turned into pools of water as blocked drains struggled to handle the runoff.
Residents expressed their dissatisfaction, saying, “The council needs to take action. It’s difficult to walk on the streets.”
They criticized the council for focusing on vendor regulations while neglecting essential services like drainage.
One resident stated, “It feels like our council is asleep while these issues get worse.”
Transport operators also voiced their concerns, explaining that the flooded areas are making it hard for customers to reach them.
Mr. Edmore Gwengwe, chairperson of the Harare Youth Transporters Association, said, “We need proper infrastructure.
Our buses are stuck for hours because people can’t cross the flooded streets.”
Despite numerous requests for assistance, the Harare City Council has not taken meaningful action, leaving many residents feeling ignored.
This flooding situation comes as the council already faces challenges with other services, such as waste management.
