Early Christmas Empowerment: Spreading Joy and Opportunities
By Chiyedzo Josiah Dimbo Ambassador of Hope
As the festive season draws closer, hope and opportunity are taking centre stage for persons with disabilities across the country, thanks to a renewed empowerment drive led by People With Disabilities for Economic Development (PWDs 4ED).
Speaking on the initiative, Jimayi Muduvuri, Patron of PWDs 4ED and Founder of the Muduvuri Rehabilitation and Empowerment Foundation, highlighted the organisation’s commitment to sustainable economic empowerment.
“As we approach the festive season, I am excited to share our latest initiative aimed at empowering our members and promoting economic growth,” said Muduvuri.
Reflecting on past efforts, Muduvuri acknowledged both the lessons learned and the determination to move forward stronger.
“The last time we set up shops, it was not a success. However, we have taken those lessons and are now moving to the next level. Each man for himself, God for us all,” he said.
Under the new empowerment model, each provincial team will receive US$1,000, allocated to 40 members. The funds will be accessed as loans with a small interest component, ensuring continuity and sustainability.
“This is an opportunity for individuals to access capital for their projects, grow their businesses, and repay the loan so that others can also benefit,” Muduvuri explained. “It is a tough road, but with determination and hard work, it can be done.”
The initiative aims to create a revolving fund that empowers members economically while fostering accountability, independence, and long-term growth.
Muduvuri also expressed appreciation for the support shown by the Kadoma Mashwest Province, which contributed 40 members organised into two groups under PWDs 4ED.
“This support is a clear demonstration of the power of unity and collective action,” he said.
As the Christmas season approaches, Muduvuri urged members and communities to embrace inclusivity and shared responsibility, echoing national values.
“Let us remember the words of His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa: ‘Leaving no one and no place behind.’ Together, we can build a brighter future for ourselves and our communities,” he said.
He concluded with a powerful reminder of collective nation-building:
“Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo – a country is built by its people.”
