Fadzayi Mahere Voted Zimbabwean of the Year
Lawyer and political figure Fadzayi Mahere has been voted Zimbabwean of the Year in a poll run by local radio station ZiFM Stereo.
In a statement, ZiFM said Mahere was recognised for her strong advocacy, policy-driven engagement and focus on accountability in public life.
The station said she uses her platform to push for transparency, justice and greater citizen participation, particularly among young people and women.
Other nominees in the poll included Tino Machakaire, Wicknell Chivayo, Vee Kativhu, Kirsty Coventry, Hilton Mudariki, Ken Sharpe, Samuelle Dimairho, Pedzayi “Scott” Sakupwanya and Sikandar Raza.
Reacting to the award, Mahere said she was honoured to have received such strong support from members of the public. She said:
“It is a huge honour to be voted ‘Zimbabwean of the Year’ by the people. I treasure the gift of being able to speak with, and for those who aspire for a Zimbabwe that works, that is globally competitive and has freedom, fairness and opportunity for all.
“This is the only Zimbabwe we have, so we must join hands to build it, champion excellence and demand competent, ethical leadership that drives our great nation forward.
“Congratulations to all fellow nominees. Let us work hard to ensure the Zimbabwean Dream becomes a reality for everyone.
“Thank you to Misred and ZiFMStereo for affording the people this platform.”
Nicknamed the Iron Lady, Mahere has used social media to challenge those in power and hold public officials to account.
