Preacher Alistair Chibanda has been arrested following a complaint by women-focused brand Doek and Slay over what the organisation describes as false and defamatory claims aimed at damaging its reputation.

In a statement, Doek and Slay said it had “noted with concern the circulation of sustained false and defamatory information attributed to Alistair Chibanda, which is intended to damage the reputation and credibility of the Doek and Slay brand.”

The brand confirmed that the matter is no longer confined to public debate, saying law enforcement authorities are now handling the case.

“We would like to advise our community and the public that the matter has been formally reported to law enforcement authorities and is currently under investigation,” the statement reads.

“The individual concerned is now in police custody and the case is now proceeding through the appropriate legal channels.”

Doek and Slay also stressed that its name is legally protected, warning against attempts to misuse or tarnish it.

“Doek and Slay is a registered and legally protected trademark.

“We remain firm in our commitment to safeguarding our brand, our patrons, and our stakeholders,” the organisation said, adding that “any attempts to misrepresent, defame, or unlawfully exploit our brand will not be taken lightly.”
