Very dangerous Zimbabwean armed.robber flees back home after killing two SA police officers, R150 000 reward offered
Johannesburg – The South African Police Service (SAPS) is intensifying its pursuit of Jabulani Thabang Moyo, a Zimbabwean national wanted in connection with the brutal killing of two police officers in Roodepoort. A substantial reward of R150,000 is being offered to anyone who can provide information leading to his arrest.
The two officers, a warrant officer and a sergeant, both detectives attached to the Florida SAPS, were murdered on Friday, August 8, 2025, while transporting Moyo from court. Moyo was a trial-awaiting prisoner at the time of the incident.
National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, has stated that intelligence suggests Moyo has fled South Africa. “The latest intelligence shows he is in Zimbabwe. We will engage our counterparts there and bring him back to face charges for the killing of our two police officers,” he affirmed.
Police have issued a stark warning to the public regarding Moyo’s dangerous nature. “This criminal is very dangerous. Do not approach him. He has no regard for life, and we are warning anyone who has information to come forward and not approach this killer,” a police statement read. It has also been confirmed that Moyo is armed and in possession of a state firearm.
This is not the first time Moyo has evaded capture. In November, he managed to escape police custody for the second time, following a tense chase in Cosmo City, Johannesburg North. The operation resulted in the death of one suspect and the arrest of another, but Moyo once again slipped through the net.
According to SAPS, officers from crime intelligence received information about suspects planning to commit a business robbery in Fairlands and Honeydew. On Saturday, November 15, police spotted a grey Audi and a white VW Polo linked to the suspects.
“As police were approaching the cars, the suspects alighted and fired shots at the police, a shootout ensued,” the police statement detailed. “Other suspects fled on foot while two suspects jumped into the VW Polo and sped off. Police gave chase until at Cosmo City where one suspect was fatally shot and the other suspect arrested.”
During the Cosmo City operation, officers recovered an AK-47, a pistol, and ammunition. Despite these gains, Moyo, notorious for his repeated escapes, vanished once again.
Residents of Cosmo City expressed their fear and concern following the shootout. “We heard several shots and saw police chasing the cars,” said Melody Makhubele, a local resident. “It’s frightening to think he is still out there.”
Authorities believe Moyo was part of a gang planning robberies around Fairlands and Honeydew. He has repeatedly evaded capture, moving between Johannesburg suburbs and allegedly staying with criminal networks. The arrested suspect from the Cosmo City incident faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms. The search continues for Moyo and any remaining accomplices.
Justice Delayed: Family Frustrated as Suspect in Sandton Hit-and-Run Remains at Large
In a separate case, the family of Emmanuel Mahamba, a Zimbabwean man who died after being run over multiple times by a Ford Ranger in Sandton in April, are expressing their frustration at the lack of progress in the investigation. Nine months after the incident, the suspect remains at large.
Gauteng police have acknowledged that the suspect, identified as Ali “Arizona” Mugoya, is still on the run. The incident, which occurred in Rivonia, Sandton, was captured on video and circulated widely on social media, sparking public outrage.
It is alleged that the incident stemmed from a love triangle involving Mahamba, Mugoya, and a woman linked to Mugoya. The confrontation reportedly escalated, leading to Mahamba’s death.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed that Mugoya is a person of interest in the case and is the man seen in the images shared on social media after the incident. “The suspect (referring to Mugoya) was identified and police are still searching for him as he is on the run,” Masondo stated.
Joburg-based lawyer, activist, and businessman, Moreboys Munetsi, who is assisting Mahamba’s family with legal support, has voiced concerns about the slow pace of the investigation. Munetsi previously told reporters that frustration is growing among Mahamba’s family and friends as there is no justice for the deceased.
Munetsi has also raised questions about Mugoya’s business activities. “The family of Emmanuel is very frustrated with the way the case is going, considering that there is no progress at all. It is alleged that some of his companies are still operating. This sounds as if he is still around the area. Previously, the police informed the family that the wanted guy was seen around Springs, but until now there is no update,” he said.
Munetsi further stated that Mugoya’s phone is still in use, both for calls and on WhatsApp. “Police should use their technology to trace him. Since his business is working, it means they should monitor all the transactions that can help police to investigate,” Munetsi urged. “The police should take more action on this case. The family is frustrated.”
In April, a woman identified as Ntombi, revealed that she has two children with Mugoya. In a conversation with Munetsi, Ntombi referred to Mugoya as her “baby daddy” and admitted to having been in a relationship with Mahamba.
Ntombi recounted that on the day of the incident, Emmanuel and some Ugandan men visited her workplace, a shop selling motorbike parts. Mugoya was already present at the shop.
Anyone with information regarding Mugoya’s whereabouts is urged to contact the investigating officer, Constable Ndou Murabeleni, on (+27) 076 416 5664 or (+27) 069 591 6447.
